Local Residents Information

All event traffic — whether camping, day-visitor or production — will be signed onto the A283, with the majority of vehicles approaching from the A24. Highway signage will guide drivers to the A24 / A283 roundabout and onto the festival site. Please note that The Hollow, the small road that links the A24 and A283 just before the roundabout, is not suitable for event traffic and will be signed accordingly. We’d politely ask local drivers to avoid using The Hollow during peak ingress/egress so that any vehicles that have ignored signage do not cause it to become congested.

Following a recommendation from West Sussex Highways during the 2025 event debrief, we are applying for a temporary 30 mph speed limit on the A283 in the vicinity of the site for the duration of the event. This is to help manage traffic flow safely past the festival gates and to keep pedestrians, stewards and emergency access protected. The exact extent of the speed restriction will be confirmed once the TTRO (Temporary Traffic Regulation Order) is granted by West Sussex County Council.

To allow safe ingress and egress on the A283, temporary traffic lights, operated manually by a qualified traffic management operative, will be in place at Red Gate and Brown Gate during peak periods on Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August between approximately 09:00 and 00:00. The lights are switched off when not in active use, so you should only encounter them when traffic flow into or out of the site requires them.

Two electronic Variable Message Signs will be in place on the A283 from 08:00 Thursday 27th August until 12:00 Monday 31st August:

• VMS 1 — A283 west of the site, ahead of the Water Lane / Chanctonbury Ring Road crossroads, facing west (visible to traffic approaching from the A24).
• VMS 2 — A283 east of the site, between the Red Gate and Blue Gate, facing east.

These will display short messages prefixed “Event Traffic” to direct festival vehicles to the correct gate and help avoid queues building on the A283.

In line with previous years, access on Steyning End and Mouse Lane will be restricted to authorised event traffic and residents only. The restriction will be enforced by stewards and signage, and all residents on these roads will continue to have full access. 

If you live locally and would normally use the routes around the Wiston Estate during peak periods, we’d recommend the following alternatives. You will not be turned away — but at the peak times listed your journey through the area will be slower than usual.

Peak ingress (heaviest traffic inbound to the festival):

• Thursday 27th August — morning to late afternoon
• Friday 28th August — throughout the day
• Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th August — late morning to mid-afternoon

Peak egress (heaviest traffic leaving the festival):

• Friday 28th & Saturday 29th August — evenings, approx. 21:00 – 00:00
• Sunday 30th August — from 21:00 onwards
• Monday 31st August — 07:00 to 12:00 (main exit day)

If you would normally travel along the A283 past the site: the road remains open in both directions throughout, but please allow extra time and expect short delays at the temporary traffic lights at Red Gate and Brown Gate.

If you would normally use Chanctonbury Ring Road: please be aware this will be operating as a one-way system for event traffic — local access is maintained but please follow the signed direction of travel where possible.

Travelling to Worthing or the south coast: the A24 southbound remains the recommended route at all times and will not be affected by event traffic.

The festival continues to encourage coach travel as a low-impact way of getting to site. Coaches enter via Red Gate and park in a dedicated coach park on the Wiston Estate. We are not anticipating any coach activity on the smaller roads around Steyning, Wiston or Washington.
